There are seven categories of Jobs, each of which having four jobs in a straight
progression. Essentially only the first class in the progression is availible
to every player, and to be able to use the next class in the progression,
the player must level up the first class to level 2. For instance, Joseph
wants to become a Dragoon, so he must level up the Knight job to level
2 in order to become a dragoon. To get to the third class one must have
the other class at level 4, and to unlock the last class one must raise
the second class to level 6. For instance, Joseph, now a Dragoon, wants
to become a Templar Knight. He must level Dragoon to a level 4 job, then
become a Defender and raise it up to level 6. There are seven such progressions,
each of which is a favored progression of a specific race. Members of
the race preferring said progression recieve a bonus to JP. Humans have
no favored progression - they recieve the JP bonus no matter the class.
The Job system breaks down as follows:
- The
Knight Progression - The
Fighter Progression - The
Shaman Progression -
The Rogue Progression - The
Archer Progression - The
Priest Progression -
The Wizard Progression There
are also Expert Classes, classes that come by mastering several normal
classes (Like, say, mastering White Mage, Defender and Knight to unlock
the White Knight). While such combinations will not be listed here apart
from the White Knights, we will list such classes: The White Knight, Dark
Knight, Red Mage, Runic Knight, Samurai, Bard, Necromancer, Gambler and
Mime. There are also racial-exclusive prestige classes; the Human's Master
Swordsman, the Vieran Arcane Archer, the Dwarf Berserker, the Goblin Shadowstalker,
the Moogle's Moogle Knight, the Burmecian Dragon Knight, the Nu Mou Sage
and the Mako Robot Hunter Seeker.
